Do I really have to follow the instructions of the FAQ?

The answer is: YES.

Some issues are easily resolved by simply unplugging the computer, or checking to make sure that something isn't loose.  It could take us several days to respond to your ticket, and the issue could be resolved by you in about 5 minutes.  Don't be afraid to look at something.  You can't break your computer any worse than we can fix it (aside from physical or electrical damage to the equipment).  If you're unsure of something - Ask Google.  Simple problem like cords into your computer is one thing.  

Whatever you do - do not touch major computer equipment (DSL Modems, Switches, Routers, Servers) in your building without prior approval from the IT Department.
