How to setup remote desktop connection?
Last Updated 10 years ago
1. Click on the Windows start button in the bottom left corner of your screen. Right away after clicking on the start button begin typing "remote desktop" and wait until you see 'Remote Desktop Connection' show up in the results.
2. Once the Remote Desktop Connection window appears, click on the 'Show Options' down arrow to expand and view all of the options available for a connection.
3. Now your screen should look like this.
In the 'Computer:' box input 98.103.4.83
For the user name: input your first initial and full-last name. In my case it's pmiller (Paul Miller).
After you are finished with these areas, you may now click on the 'Local Resources' tab (highlighted in picture above).
4. Once you're on the 'Local Resources' tab, you may click on the 'More...' button at the bottom of that tab. (highlighted in picture above).
5. You should now be greeted with a similar screen. Look for the 'Drives' dropdown and click on the icon to its left to expand the 'Drives' section. Make sure to checkmark the 'Local Disk (C:)' and also the 'Other supported Plug and Play (PnP) devices'. Click 'OK'.
To better explain what this is doing is allowing your computers hard drive and any flash drives/external drives you have connected to your computer to show up within the remote desktop connection computer on the server. i.e. If you needed a HR form, you could literally connect to the Oakwood server through remote desktop, open the HR network drive and literally copy it to your computers hard drive.
6. You can then go back to the 'General' tab and find the 'Save As...' button at bottom-center of the window and click on it.
7. You can then name it "Oakwood" and be sure to place it somewhere easy to find for future reference like on your 'Desktop'.
8. Now whenever you double click on "Oakwood" it will connect to the main F&CS server and ask for your login password. Since you filled out your first initial last name earlier, it'll automatically be filled in for you each time.
